Helping Hands

Some members of the congregation may not be familiar with this Cathedral programme So I have taken this opportunity to outline it once more.

We started this programme under the Health Ministry five years ago to establish a more formal approach to helping each other during a time of individual or family need.. I am sure since the Cathedral church was established over 150 years ago congregational members have been helping each other out when there has been a crisis or indeed a time of joy, or of just pure necessity as we meet life's challenges.

As it is some time since we started Helping Hands we feel it is time to revise the lists of those who have offered to help in the past and to add to them those who now might feel they could offer some help from time to time. Often help is a" one off" time to support an individual or family or as part of a team for a period of time.

The most common things we usually do are driving someone to a doctor's appointment, bringing a meal when someone is not well., sitting with someone at home to give family members a short break or raking the garden leaves in the fall for someone unable to manage this. HOWEVER Helping Hands can be far more than this. It is an opportunity to offer your gifts and talents in a way that can support an family or person in their time of need I ask each one of you to think about this. We only ask you to help in the time you have available. If it is not convenient at any given time we will ask someone else. In two weeks time I will put sign up lists in the Cathedral for those who might offer to be part of this very quiet but very significant ministry we offer to each other. Please give some thought as to how you might help given your time and your ability to do so. If you have any questions please call Isabel Cutler, Parish Nurse at 450-7766 or pn\@christchurchcathedral.com

The Canadian Association for Parish Nursing Ministries Annual Meeting and Conference 2011

Wendy Brien, Michele LeBlanc and I attending this conference in Moncton in June. We would like to thank all of you who supported us during our fund raising events and in the preparation for this event which enabled us to attend and to financially support the organisation of this conference. The conference went so smoothly and the feedback was that it was a time of such great enrichment for all who participated. The three of us returned from meeting so many Parish Nursing colleagues from around the country and beyond, hearing their stories, sharing ours and feeling so uplifted by the endorsement of Parish Nursing ministries and by the spiritual enrichment we received at that time together. Thank you to you all for making it happen, for your endorsement of this Cathedral ministry not only for this conference but throughout the year.

Isabel Cutler, RN
Parish Nurse

PS We learnt there are over 15,000 Parish Nurses around the world!
