The Cathedral Missions Committee

Belize
   Saint Hilda's School, Belize

The Missions Committee wants to encourage and promote mission work as a means of living out our Christian faith, as individuals and as the Cathedral family.

For example, we have asked missionaries to share their stories with you and will continue to invite speakers.

We want to inspire you to pray often for missionaries and will provide some sample prayers.

We also want to lead the congregation into action to make a difference around the globe . this could include organizing short-term mission trips in the future.

In a 1991 article entitled Prayer as a strategic weapon in frontier missions, John D. Robb says that prayer has always undergirded and extended the missionary outreach of the church. In making his point, he quotes from Robert H. Glover's book, The Bible Basis of Missions, published in 1946: "From Pentecost and the Apostle Paul, right down through the centuries to the present day, the story of missions has been the story of answered prayer. Every fresh outbreak of missionary energy has been the result of believing prayer. Every new missionary undertaking that has been owned and blessed of God has been the germinating of seed planted by the divine spirit in the hearts of praying saints."

Successful Benefit Concert for Uganda

A cheque for $763 is on its way to Canon Paul Jeffries at Bishop McAllister College in Uganda to pay for window frames for the Eagle’s Nest student dormitory which is under construction.

The money was raised through ticket sales and donations at a country gospel concert in Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday evening, May 8th. Paul’s cousin, John Jeffries, and his band, Classic Country, played and sang. Other musical guests were Gerry Flowers, Barb Prosser Winder, Amy Yerxa, and the Ville Girls.

The Missions Committee of Christ Church Cathedral would like to thank the musicians for donating their time and members of the congregation who attended this enjoyable event. Mark your 2011 calendar – John and his band will be back for the third annual concert for Paul Jeffries on May 14th next year!
