The Cathedral Puppeteers

The Cathedral Puppeteers was a group of young people, aged 15 or older, from Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton, New Brunswick. It had a vibrant puppet ministry for over twelve years beginning in 1997. The group's mission was to share the good news of the Gospel through the medium of puppetry. During weekly practices, members of the group worked on personal faith development (primarily through weekly Bible studies) and puppetry skills. Their performances always had a Biblically-based spiritual message for both the young and the young-at-heart.

While the Puppeteers group is not longer active, members of the Cathedral community and many others fondly remember their often whimsical and always sprited performances.

Within the Cathedral community, the puppeteers performed monthly for the children of the Sunday school. As well, following the words of Jesus who said, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...teaching them everything I have commanded you. And, surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20), the group embarked on many "road trips". They took their ministry to numerous congregations across the Diocese of Fredericton, as well as beyond the borders of New Brunswick. In 2006 they traveled to New Hampshire and visited elementary and high school students with their Christian message.

BELIZE - In 2005 the Puppeteers ministered to the children and people of Belize in Central America where they were involved with the elementary and high schools in Belize City. In March of 2007 they returned to the San Ignacio area of Belize with other members of the Cathedral congregation (26 people in total). While there, the group worked on construction projects at three elementary schools, volunteered in the classrooms as teacher's aides, and performed daily puppet shows for the school children. In September the Puppeteers spent the weekend with Reverend Pat Drummond at Christ Church in the parish of New Bandon. There they visited with the youth group and shared their puppet ministry with the congregation on Sunday morning.

In October the group traveled to Hampton where they were warmly welcomed by the congregation of St. Paul.s Anglican Church and rector, the Reverend Leo Martin. Lots of fun with the youth group after the service, chatting and eating pizza.

November was a busy and fun filled month. The puppeteers visited Oromocto United Church and had a wonderful time of sharing with the very gracious and welcoming people of that congregation. (photo). Later in the month, the Puppeteers made their annual visit to Gagetown to be part of .Christmas in the Village..(photo)

In December the group took their puppet ministry to the Oromocto Mall to share the good news of the birth of Jesus with the busy shoppers. Many stopped and listened and it was a joy to be able to share the Christmas message in a secular setting.

The Puppeteers welcomed opportunities to visit churches and Sunday schools. Their puppet shows were filled with colour, action, humour, dialogue and song and, most importantly, a strong message about their Christian faith.
